1. the first PC introduced by IBM at 1984 had a 8088 processor with 16 bits and not 8 bits.
Even at that time there was nothing you could right with 8 bits ( calculator maybe) and no commercial software could be written with 256 bytes nor with max int 0f 127 !
2. AMD has a market value of 10 Billion dollars and can not consider small company. iIt is actually one of the 10 largest semiconductor companies in the wrold !!!!
From technology perspective AMD compete Intel prety well . Without the illegal help of Microsoft (AKA Wintel ) AMD would have also get a larger market share.
3. Intel didn't follow AMD in developing 64bit processor, they simply developed one with lausie performance ( and did that before the Athelon) Morover AMD 64 bits are based and compatible to the 64 bits architecture defined by Intel (IA-64) .
4. Bus can be wide or not regardless of the processor. It's about time you'll learn the differance between processor and computer.
5. 486 and 586 processors had also 64 and 80 bits registers ( FP registers ) and even had 128bits regs (MMX ) . The groyse glik in 64 bit architecture is the address size.
