Now, to rebuff your idiotic comments: NBC is actually suffering because it hasn't been performing; of all the four big networks it has the lowest ratings, even jay Leno is joking about NBC on his show. NBC revenues have been eroding because it is advertising based and the economy is shit. You won't see it because NBC is fully owned by GE, so their financial are consolidated, but take my word for it. On one hand you want quality content and on the other you want no advertisements or low subion fee. Well my friend, you can't hold the stick at both ends. For example, HBO (Sex and the City, Sopranos) spends hundreds of millions on content and in order to get HBO you need to have the most expensive cable package. The industry in Israel has been suffering mostly because of bad regulation; the regulators fail to understand the economic implications of a small market and there is always a general bias against savvy business people in Israel. You see, the Israeli market has about 1.5 million households; the U.S. market has 130 million households. For a media company to be economically viable it needs a certain stream of cash just to keep its fixed cost so it can operate. In addition, content is very a tricky business because it is a hit and miss and until you spend all the money on developing content you don't really know if it is a hit or a miss. You complain about how the market is concentrated, but you fail to realize that there are not may people in Israel with the experience and capital to operate media companies. For them it is an investment like any other; if they can't get good return on their money they will invest their money elsewhere. Would you invest your hard earned money on a company so regulated that all the profitability is squeezed out of? In their position you would do the same. You complain about all the reality shows while your colleagues cover it on NRG daily; my bet is that you watch it too. If everyone wants to watch reality, than that is what they should get. It is the market/viewers that need to regulate the content, not some a group of people that think they know best. There is a basis for comparison to the U.S. media market, you just don't have the experience and knowledge to do that, not to mention the integrity to do good due diligence before sending this pile of words to your editor. Go back to school, learn a few tricks, and then we'll see if you have something of value to say.

As an Israeli who's been living in NYC for 10 years now I can tell you, America and its television is not as sophisticated as you think.
The only reason Obama went on Leno (still the #1 rated talk show in here, that's why NBC still backing it up greatly) is due to a very sad reason - If he won't talk to the American People on an entertainment show, they will not hear about it. FACT. Look at how many politicians announced they run to a public office on Leno, There was Arnold, Hackabee and others - Most TV and Political critics here talked about this new phenomenon as a bad thing - you for some reason think it shows how seriously Americans take their television - but in fact Most Americans only watch cheap junk and fast paced ET shows - so 'Important' people have no choice but to go there to be heard.

Still the top rated shows in America are reality shows, American Idol and Dancing with the stars are on top, and while amazing shows like American Dreams, Eli Stone and Back To You are being dropped by the networks, more reality shows are picked up - Bottom Line is , The masses - if it'll be in America or Israel, like the reality shows - FACT - they may not admit it, but that's what they watch. Only networks that are not doomed by Ratings, rather Subion payments like HBO and Showtime, can afford having quality shows regardless of their viewerships - though even HBO dropped carnival for low ratings so go figure. Now about The Daily Show with John Stewart, I'm a huge fan watch it every night, but the Spongebob Squarepants has higher ratings the Stewart, so does the WWE shows, The Daily show is no where in the top 50 basic cable ratings chart - so what does that tell you.

I think you jump the gun with this article, spend some time in America and see for yourself, the only reason quality but low rated shows can survive in America is because we have over 300 million people here, Vs 6 million in Israel..

אגב, זה שאתה כל כך בטוח שאתה מייצג איזה רצון קולקטיבי, שאתה מדבר ברבים ''רצינו טלויזיה כמו באמריקה'' ולא ברור מי זה ה''רצינו'' ו''חלמנו'' הזה, מזכיר לי את אותה ההרגשה שהיתה לי לא פעם אל מול הדרמות הישראליות שאתה כל כך נלחם על יצירתן. הרגשה של חבורת אנשים שפשוט עושים דרמות על איזו בועה שאני לא חושבת שגם בתל אביב היא קיימת, אלא יותר בראשיהם בלבד, ולא מעוררת לא הזדהות ולא חיבה אלא שאט נפש גדולה כל כך והרגשת אונס ממש, כשהמבקרים מהללים את ה''בורגנים'' ומחנכים אותך שזו דרמה ישראלית במיטבה, ואל תתווכח איתם, כשכל מה שאתה רואה זה נושא אחד בלבד: ''כולה זיונים, כולם עושים את זה כל הזמן עם כולם, וככה זה כשמגניבים ומה הענין''.

יש כלי תקשורת בישראל שלא בכיס של השמאל (בשם הדמוקרטיה, כמובן)?יש לקחת מהשמאל את השליטה הדיקטטורית הזו, שגורמת לgroupthink הנוראי הזה. הם שומעים רק את הדעות של עצמם, בהדהוד חוזר ונשנה ע''י כל מערכות השמאל, מאיפה אתה מצפה לביקורת? הם כולם אותו הדבר!
