First, are you a doctor? What reason do YOU have to not believe her medical condition and what put her there? Court appointed doctors with impecible credentials reviewed that case and determined that her condition was irreversible and that she was in a persistant vegetative state. I guess you know more though. Second, she was not killed. There is a huge difference between killing someone that can exist completely on their own and not extending the life of a person that CHOOSES not to have their ''life'' extended by artificial means. She had the right to choose whether she wanted to have her life preserved at all costs, she relayed this information to her husband that she would not want to do this. This isn't about the parents OR the husband, but about what SHE herself wanted. Third, the courts believed the husband because THAT IS THE LAW! What don't you understand about that? Guardianship belongs to the spouse. PERIOD. It has nothing to do with the parents wishes. The fact that he has another partner and children is completely irrelevant, he could have parted with guardianship, he could have taken the money offered to him. The fact that he didn't clears him, in my mind, of any alterior motives. His purpose was to fulfill his wife's wishes. Fourth, her parents are catholic- I find it hard to believe that a young woman (she was only twenty-six when this happened) would bring up her life and death wishes to her catholic parents. It is not so hard to believe that she would talk about these things with her husband. She had an eating disorder, her medical condition was self-induced. Frankly, I am not sure what to think. If this is a real question of ''the right to die'', as the liberals put it, then I am all for it. A person should have the right to have his life terminated, if he so chooses. But I am not convinced yet that this was the case here. At the very least, some things smell funny. I am a bit disturbed by the fact that in this report it is said that the feeding tube was keeping her alive ''artificially''. What is artificial about food? She is not connected to any heart/lung machine or anything - this is just food we are talking about. Furthermore, nurses have testified that she was able to eat by herself (no tube) until her husband forbit them to feed her like this, and made them put in the tube instead. Add this to the misterious broken bones she had, to the fact that he forbid nurses to play music for her, that he forbit her parents from visiting at times, etc., Well, I am not sure what was all of this about. I am all for the right to die - 100%, and this includes all kinds of assited suicide when the patient cannot do it himself. But I am not for the right to kill.
